A common practice for theatrical movie releases virtually worldwide was the production, distribution and display of lobby cards.  Lobby cards were often on view in theater lobbies, giving the moviegoer something to look at before entering the actual theater.  Often they featured action scenes or cast photos, and were usually released in sets of 8-10 per film.

Sadly, theatrical distributors stopped issuing these sometime in the late 1980's, along with several other sizes of promotional artwork.

I have several lobby cards in my collection, from a theatrical release in Mexico.

As mentioned here, Night of the Sorceers was picked up for North American distribution by avco-Embassy, a movie production and distribution company that thrived during the duration of the 70's and early 80's.  Night of the Sorcerers, along with several other foreign and/or independent horror titles, were packaged together and sold to television stations under the banner name  "nightmare Theater".

The  series of films and the program itself are fondly remembered by those fortunate enough to have seen the initial run.

The images below are scans of promotional materials Avco-Embassy sent out to local stations for advertising the various titles and show.  The images most likely would have appeared as ads in local tv listings etc.  A color still was included along with the set of b/w  promo stills as an added extra.  It is interesting to note that these images virtually mirror the domestic lobby cards normally reserved for theatrical runs, so this could signify a one-time plan to release the title theatrically...These are clearly marked with the "Nightmare THeater" reference, so the ultimate use for this set at least is clear.

A special thank you goes out to Louis Kiss, the owner of this set of images, for sharing scans with me for site posting purposes.  Check out his page at http://www.holdstalero.com
