Recent online discussions have raised some interesting questions about the "uncut" status of this release.  While it is in my opinion that the brand new DEIMOS release is a must have, regardless of any material that may or may not be missing, it is a fact that it differs from other past releases.

Ultimately, we are dealing with about 26 seconds of footage, and it remains to be seen as to whether or not the additional footage on view in other versions was actually part of the original finished film, or added in later by territorial distributors etc.

Please check out my review for more on this subject, but do take a look at a couple of very well laid out documents below, the result of some lengthy analysis done by two different fans of the film.

Links to their sites are provided, and if you're REALLY into some serious self abuse, check out the additional link to the lively forum "DISCUSSIONS" that sparked this cut/uncut revelation.

PROS & CONS

(COURTESY OF BOB MONEL from JESS FRANCO STATE OF MIND)

The Advantages:

Terrific Hi Def video quality with luminous colors and pinpoint clarity 9/10

The inclusion of the Spanish track with literate, easy to read Eng subs which allows another cultural/thematic reading and reestablishes its identity as SPANISH horror.

There is no digital censoring or intrusive subtitles which appear in the Japanese version.

The extras: A wide array including excellent liner notes, alternate scenes, some of the missing footage from the feature, the solarization and clothed scenes, Still gallery; rare photos. Spanish credit sequence. Stylish menus and respectful packaging.

Very reasonable price.

The Downside:

It's not the full-strength version in terms of nudity and violence presented in the actual feature assembly.

Missing some  opticals which appear in other known versions. This is somewhat mitigated by the possibility this is an alternate version made for certain territories and that the opticals were deliberately not laid on in post production. But this is unclear at this point. If one has NEVER seen the film before in ANY version these missing elements will not pose a problem.

Missing dialogue from a key scene which isn't presented as a clip in the supplements.

Out of synch English language track.
